Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018)

The film takes place in the early nineties of the twentieth century in New York. Lee Israel is experiencing financial difficulties after her biography of Este Lauder failed miserably. Depression does not allow her to pull herself together and she starts drinking, which leads her to alcoholism, while she begins to be harassed by a creative crisis that does not allow her to go further. Due to problems with the money that she needed so much, she decides to gradually sell her property and first of all decides to put up for sale her own letter from Katharine Hepburn.

A woman is preparing to write a new biography about Fanny Brice, she is conducting serious research collecting the necessary material. One day two letters from Bryce fall into her hands, the writer decides to show the find to her friend who owns a bookstore. Anna did not rate one of them so highly, deciding that the content was not too interesting. Then Lee brings her a second letter, on which she independently added a postscript and received a decent price for it. From that moment on, the main character decides to start forging letters, and in order to raise their cost, complements them with fictional intimate details.
