Akwa Ibom State PDP Candidate, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has commended the peaceful conduct of the Presidential election and the quick ‘walk-around’ by INEC in recommending the use of manual accreditation and voting due to problems associated with the use of the card reader across the nation.
Addressing a large group of journalists who had turned up at his polling booth in Awa Iman, Onna Local Government Area, Deacon Udom was very effusive in his praise of the peaceful nature of the election “you can look around here, the feeling you get is like a typical Sunday morning, where people peacefully make their way to their various churches.
We have always said that elections will be peaceful and orderly and what you are seeing here is a manifestation of that belief.”
Asked to comment on the malfunction associated with the card reader, which has failed to capture the biometrics of voters across the nation, including President Goodluck Jonathan, Emmanuel said the concerns earlier expressed by his party, PDP over the likelihood of malfunction of the card reader has been vindicated “we as a party anticipated this problem and we said so loud and clear, it’s a new technology and it is bound to manifest some challenges and problems.
It will take some time to get this right; even the POS system we introduced in the banking sector took some time to perfect its applications. I however, have to commend INEC for the quick ‘walk-around’ by recommending manual accreditation and voting, so Nigerians will not be disenfranchised” Deacon Emmanuel had stated.
