Reasons have emerged on the surprise
nomination of a former Commission for
Information in the Old Cross River and Akwa Ibom State Mr. Moses Ekpo as running mate for Udom Emmanuel.
The Sensor authoritatively gathered the
choice of Ekpo, a thorough bread gentleman and septuagenarian to avoid he rancor that usually occurs between the ambitious deputy governor and their bosses.
The source told our correspondent that “Mr. Ekpo will not in any way seek to succeed his boss, work against him or engage in an unnecessary rivalry as he is a gentleman of no fault. The man will no longer have interest in public office after completing his term”
It would be recalled the choice of the former Director General of the Nigerian copyright Commission has sent shock-spine to political pundits across the state as all those touted to be possible running mate failed to make the list.
The choice of Ekpo who hails from Abak local government has also changed the political calculation and zoning of offices in 2015 if the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP eventually wins the general elections. Those who had hope to emerge as speaker of the State House of Assembly have been disappointed as the position will no longer to the area.
Meanwhile, Moses Ekpo’s name has been
sent alongside the governorship candidate, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to the Independent national Electoral Commission, INEC.
The reception of the names had put to an end the long- drawn battle for the soul of the party ticket in which 22 aggrieved aspirants had consistently rejected the choice of Udom citing excuses of being Governor Akpabio
Our correspondent reports that with the
submission of Udom’s name to INEC, the
battle is now set for the real contest in the general election. The election is a direct battle between Udom’s PDP and Umana’s APC. Accord Party led by Bishop Samuel Akpan may also spring surprise.
The State caucus of the party are yet to issue a statement on the choice of Ekpo, as at the time of filing this report.
