The people of Ikot Ada Akpan, Oku Iboku Clan in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have been advised to maintain peace and furnish the security personel drafted to the area with appropriate information to enable them provide adequate security in the area.
The State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel gave the advise during his visit to the riverine community following report of attack on the people by their neighbours alleged to have come from Ikot Offiong community in Cross River State.
Addressing the people, Governor Emmanuel who condemned the attack wondered why people from the sister state would cross the natural boundary to launch attack on their neighbours and cautioned the youths and people of the community not to take the law in to their hands but support security agents to provide adequate security and forestall further incursion.
He assured that efforts are being intensified to uncover the root cause of the hostility with a view to profering solution to the incessant attack on the people Ikot Ada Akpan and it neighbouring communities.
Governor Emmanuel sympathised with the people over the unfortunate incident and assured them of his administration’s commitment to protect lives and property of every citizen in the state.
The spokesman for the Community and Chairman Oku Iboku Clan Council, Comrade Ability Peter Emah, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the visit saying the gesture has strengthened their confidence in government.
He said the attack has recorded a death toll of thirteen and commended the security agents for their swift response to the hostility assuring the governor that they would remain responsible citizens and go about their businesses in the community.
The Governor was accompanied by the state Police Commissioner Mr Donald Awuna, Commander 2 Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army Brigadier General Abdulahi Hassand, Secretary to the State Government Sir Etekamba Umoren, Transition Committee Chairman for the area Deconess Elsie Esara and some State Executive Council Members.
