The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Amadu Attai, as well as the party’s Publicity Secretary, Engr. Ita Awak, are alleged to have had a secret meeting with the leadership of Young Democratic Party (YDP) for possible defection to the party.
Sources told Global Pilot Newspaper that the two leaders of the party in the state were seen recently in an hotel somewhere in Uyo with the National Chairman of YDP, Arc Ezekiel Nya-etok.
“Amadi Attai and Ita Awak were recently at a meeting with Ach Ezekiel Nya-etok, national chairman of YDP.
“Although I can’t vividly say what the purpose of their meeting was, but I can however say that the said meeting might have centred on the duo joing YDP”, one of the sources said.
Even as it is not clear on what the trio was discussing let alone what the outcome of their alleged meeting was, a source who claimed to be very close to Arc Nya-etok, however told Global Pilot in confidence that the two APC leaders in the state might declare officially in no distant time, their membership to YDP.
YDP, it will be recalled was deemed registered as a political party in May, 2014 by a Federal High Court in Abuja after the party had sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for not including its name in the ballot papers meant for last year’s general elections.
Since the supreme court ruling in favour of Governor Udom Emmanuel, many members of the APC have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with many more defecting during the PDP campaign rallies ahead of the just concluded Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly re-run election, held on March 12, 2016.
If the alleged meeting is anything to go by, pundits however believe that Attai and Awak’s choice of YDP would not last aas they would sooner or later join the PDP family just like the rest of their members have done.
Efforts by Global Pilot Newspaper to reach Arc Nya-etok, Mr. Attai and Engr Awak on the alleged move to join YDP proved abortive as they were said to be outside the state.
