Mr Frank Archibong, the Executive Chairman of Eket Local Government Area on Tuesday donated a Volvo car to Eket Police Division to assist in fighting cultism in the area.
Archibong who donated the car in Eket Council Secretariat, said the gesture was part of measures to step and reduce the waves of cultism in Eket local government.
He decried that the Divisional Police Headquarters in Eket lack manpower and vehicles to fight crime effectively in the area.
Archibong said the car would aid the police in the discharged of their duty as a division.
“I also know that, we have a shortage of manpower and vehicles to operates and curb crime effectively in Eket and it’s environs.
“On behave of the local government, I know that the car will help and in a few days’ time, I will also support with motorcycle so that the police can better discharged their function,” Archibong said.
According to him, the motorcycles will also help to go into non-motorable roads that the vehicles cannot access.
“We are total committed in our drive to eliminate cultism in Eket local government and that we will achieve.
“Wherever they may be and wherever they are we will fish them out and as part of that efforts, hence the presentation of the car to you.
He said that the gesture was in furtherance of several complains of non-availability of vehicle for patrol.
He charged the police to make good use of the car in order to achieve their objectives.
Responding on behalf of the police, Eket DPO, Bello Zaurah expressed appreciation to God Almighty and thanked the Council Boss for the kind gesture.
Zaurah, represented by DSP Felix Expoudom, the Divisional Crime Officer in Eket, promised to use the car judiciously in order to arrest the gangsterism and cultism terrorising Eket local government and it’s environs.
“We are so happy for receiving this car to tackle this menace that is happening in our Division and I promise you that we are on top of the situation.
“In a short while, there will be no case of cultism in Eket local government area again, ” he said.
He promised to chase the criminals out of the nooks and crannies of the local government so that Eket would be save heavens again.
