The Transition Committee Chairman of Abak local government, Hon. Emmanuel Udosen has hailed the state governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel on the successful celebration of the 28th Anniversary of the state creation and the birth of the ‘dakkada’ initiative.
Hon. Udosen, who gave the commendation while briefly newsmen shortly after the anniversary service in Abak, last Sunday, noted that Akwa ibom state has come a long way since its creation in 1987, saying that kudos should be given to the past leaders for their various contributions.
“The week has been full of activities and they have been highly successful. When we look back and see what we have achieved as a people we realize that God has been gracious to us. When we consider the fact that we are of the minority and equally consider that before now, Akwa Ibom people were looked at with disdain and as third class citizens but today we have won our independence.
“We are now a people that can be looked up to with dignity; people now accord us the respect that we deserve. So it has been a week-long activities to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the state and and equally Nigeria’s 54th Independence celebration”.
While congratulating the people of the state for the achievement so far recorded with past administrations and expressing optimism about the prospects of the present administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, he urged the people to key into the dakkada initiative, adding that it is a clarion call.
“The dakkada event for me is worth commemorating because it is significant. I have said it before that in every political epoch, whenever a slogan of this nature is birthed, both the slogan and the person who birthed the idea were heralded. Such development usually leads to a positive political upheaval and reawakening of the people’s consciousness.
“So to me, the dakkada initiative is a political rebirth; there a lot of things that are encapsulated in the dakkada initiative. It is a call service and a call to the people of Akwa Ibom state to stand up and be counted.
“I have to use this opportunity to thank our past governors especially former Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio for taking the state to an enviable height. Today, we can compete favourably with other states in the world and Akwa Ibom ranks amongst the best state in the federation if not actually the best”.
Hon. Emmanuel Udosen further congratulated Nigerians ahead of the 54th Independence celebration. While assuring the federal government of the support of Abak people, he however appealed that the President Buhari led government should ensure that the people of South-South are fairly treated and well accommodated in governance.
