Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen has eulogised the late Paramount Ruler of Onna and Oku Ibom Ibibio III, His Eminence Akwa Edidem Dr. Akpabio Udo Ukpa as an iconic and great leader.
Mr Inyangeyen who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Ime Inyangeyen, revealed that he grew up as a child in the household of the late Ibibio patriarch also described him as a father, mentor, counselor and patriot who devoted his life to the common good of his subjects and in fighting for the rights of the people of oil producing communities, and Akwa Ibom state.
Commissioner Inyangeyen made the remark when he led a high powered team comprising the leaders of the three major ethnic nationalities in the state to pay a condolence visit to the family of the departed traditional ruler.
He thanked Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for the invaluable support he has extended to the bereaved family to facilitate a befitting burial for the late Paramount Ruler, adding that, he has also come to make his contributions to the burial of a man who was his benefactor, guardian and leader.
On hand to receive him at the palace was the Paramount Ruler Ikot abasi, HRM Edidem Udo Ntukobom and Chairman of the Funeral Planning Committee, who commended Commissioner Inyangeyen for turning up to pay homage to Late Edidem Ukpa and prayed God to bless him.
On his part, Hon. Joshua Ndoho, Caretaker Committee chairman of Onna Local Government while commending Commissioner Inyangeyen for his kind gesture also extolled the virtues of the late Paramount Ruler, who he said lived an exceptional life of service to his people, the state and the nation at large and will be sorely missed. Hon. Ndoho also thanked Governor Akpabio for taking off the burden of the burial ceremonies from the Local Government and registered the appreciation of Onna people for that effort.
Others who spoke at the event were the International President Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, Akparawa Monday Etukakpan, President Afihg Iwaad Ekid, Iwaad Godwin Williams, and the President of Esuu Nlap Oro, Ulap Joseph Bassey Okon. They all praised the virtues of the late Oku Ibom III and lauded his achievements and legacies as worth emulating.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to support the burial ceremonies and signing of the condolence register by Commissioner inyangeyen. He charged all Akwa Ibom people of goodwill to attend the funeral rites of the Oku Ibom III which he said will climax next week friday, April 7, 2017.
