The people of Nsit Ubium have expressed gratitude to Governor Udom Emmanuel as well as their representative in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, and Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke for keeping to the promise to take necessary steps to fix the cut-off bridge linking some communities in the local government area.
Speaking on behalf of the people, the Transition Committee Chairman of Nsit Ubium, Mr Otobong Edemidiong on Thursday said that following a visitation to the site of the collapsed bridge by the state Commissioner of Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang, the people have been reassured that indeed government was committed to salvaging the situation of the broken bridge. The Chairman was reacting to the assurance by the commissioner that government was working to construct the cut-off Nung Obong/Mbiekene bridge linking the East- West road in Nsit Ubium local government area. He thanked the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Barr Onofiok Luke for his efforts to bring government’s attention to the road, recalling that he had assured the people of Nsit Ubium during the last reception in honour of the governor that the Nnung Obong road issue was going to be resolved.
Also speaking on behalf of the benefitting community, President of Nnung Obong Youth Vanguard, Mr Owoidogho Nathaniel expressed gratitude to Governor Emmanuel and Speaker Luke recalling that since Hon. Luke’s first term in office, he had been rooting for the fixing of the bridge by the state government. He thanked the Speaker for successfully drawing government’s attention to the road.
“We thank our dear Governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for taking steps to keep to the promise he made to us at Ikot Edibon when we received him. We also want to thank our dear Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke for always pursuing the cause of this road right from his first term in office. He was always advocating for its inclusion in the budget right from when he was chairman of the appropriation committee of the House.”
Mr Nathaniel said that the people were proud of the Speaker’s track record of using his office at all times to further the interests of Nsit Ubium people.
It would be recalled that the inclusion of the road for repairs was advocated by the honourable Speaker during the reception for the governor by Nsit Ubium people in May. On Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang Eyen visited the collapsed bridge where he undertook an on the spot assessment to ascertain the extent of damage. He expressed dismay at what he saw.
