The Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Grassroots Reorientation, Mr Joseph Okon has described as laughable and a figment of false imaginations, the recent baseless media report against the State Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang and prominent leader, Elder Benji Udobia.
Okon dismissed them as faceless blackmailers who hide under a non-existing group ‘Vanguard of Eket Senatorial District Stakeholders’.
He said that the report is borne out of jealousy and selfish ambitions to bring down the rising profile of the working Commissioner for Works who has in the last one year brought his leadership competence and good nature to bear in the discharge of his ministerial responsibilities as evident in the execution of quality road projects in the state. The Governor’s aide maintained that as a responsible son of Akwa Ibom State and one of the prominent stakeholders in Udom Emmanuel-led administration, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang has never and will never quality for competence in his assignment.
He added that the baseless insinuations of kickback and compromise by the faceless non-existing group further exposed their ignorance of government procedures in the award of contracts which is strictly within the powers of the Governor while the ministry acts as a supervising body.
Mr Okon said that the uncompromised record of Akparawa Inyang in public service remains unchallenged and unquestionable being a man of very high integrity just like his Boss, the Governor.
He explained that the commissioner’s integrity and loyalty endeared him to the Governor over the years which is evident in the huge trust and confidence the Governor has bestowed on him in appointing him to oversee the works ministry.
According to the Governor’s Aide, “It is laughable for anybody or faceless group to claim that Akparawa Ephraim Inyang is working against the interest of his boss, the Governor. If I know of one man who is very passionate and is willing to do everything within his powers to ensure that Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Government succeeds even to the detriment of his personal comfort, it is Ephraim Inyang. It is only those who don’t know Ephraim Inyang that can imagine him as a gold-digger in Udom’s government, both those who were there from the beginning can attest to the huge financial and humanly sacrifice he committed to ensure the divine mandate succeeds.”
He restated that the Benest Technical Services, a construction company owned by Elder Ben Udobia, had put in its best to deliver a quality project on the Information Drive as attested by journalists and the community, maintaining that “there is no iota of truth whatsoever in the allegation by the faceless group who only exist on media space, that Elder Benji Udobia pays house rent for Ephraim Inyang.
He described the allegations as falsehood taken too far that anyone could assume that a commissioner who was a very senior custom officer before his appointment could depend on a contractor to pay house rent.
“Let me state very clear that Ephraim Inyang pays his rent and built his house from his sweat without any dishonest money since he came on board. The appointments done in the state are exclusively by the governor who found those he appointed worthy to work with from the arrays of hardworking people in the state”.
The Governor’s Aide challenged the faceless group to come out openly and tender evidence to back up their claims or desist from further blackmail and character assassination against the commissioner for works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang and Elder Benji Udobia who had established their integrity and capacity as good team players in Udom’s government. Mr. Okon added that Benji Udobia remains one of the most honest contractors in the state, noting that attempts to smear his character will not work.
