About 3,000Akwa Ibom women today gathered at the banquet hall grounds, government house Uyo for the maiden monthly women prayer meeting after the inauguration of Deacon Udom Emmanuel as Governor with the theme: O Lord Arise. In her remarks, wife of the Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel appreciated God for his grace which she said was pivotal to her husband’s success at the polls noting that had it not been for God, it would have been impossible.
The first lady also appreciated the women who started the journey saying “I recognize the women who started this movement, as you all know, we started this journey with prayers and God in his infinite grace brought us here. Today we are here again to call on him to come and begin this journey with us because without him, we cannot achieve anything” she quipped.
Mrs. Emmanuel also paid special tribute to the immediate past governor and wife, Chief Godswill Akpabio for their love and for allowing God use them as tools in ensuring that the ‘divine mandate’ was materialized, saying that the government of Deacon Udom Emmanuel as Governor will strive to consolidate on the successes recorded. She called on Akwa Ibom Women not to be distracted by the various court cases, but rather rejoice for victory is sure while soliciting for more prayers in order to ensure that the various programmes of government geared towards industrializing the state comes to fruition.
Earlier in her brief exhortation, Pastor (Mrs.) Utibe-eno John reading from the book of Romans 13: 1-2, said political power and authority is of God and he gives it to whomever he chooses, adding that God expects everybody to be subject under that power noting that whoever resist the power, resist the ordinance of God.
Special prayers were offered for the peace of the country, the state as well as the Governor Deacon Udom Emmanuel and wife Martha and members of his family, Prayers were also offered for the state executive council, Akwa Ibom children and the governments industrialization programmes.
Present at the prayer meeting were, wife of speaker Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mrs. Ememobong Uko, wife of SSG, Mrs. Gloria Umoren, the former deputy governor of the state, lady Valerie Ebe, wife of former deputy governor, Mrs. Atim Okpoyo as well as the immediate past commissioner for women affairs, Dr. Glory Edet. Also present were legislator’s wives association (LEWA), members of NCWS led by its president Mrs. Mayene Nkwo, market women association and various political women groups.
