Governor Godswill Akpabio has called for a peaceful, transparent and violent-free election during the forthcoming People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ward primary in Akwa Ibom State.
Akpabio, who made the call Thursday in Uyo during a meeting with PDP chapter executive members and ward chairmen in the state, further emphasised the need for free and fair elections on Saturday this week.
The Governor, therefore, advised interested persons who want to be elected as delegates to buy their forms, fill and submit before the closing date.
He directed the state party leadership to publish after the elections a list of ward delegates to help sustain internal democracy among party men.
Akpabio, however, commended Paul Ekpo, the state PDP Chairman for epitomizing the strength of party and ward chairmen whom, he described as grassroots leaders.
The Governor further commended the ward chairmen for funding the party at the grassroots level, saying it was unfortunate that some people who claimed to be founders of the party only show up during the time of election without really making concrete financial contributions to the party.
Earlier, Ekpo, the PDP Chairman had congratulated Governor Akpabio for his numerous strides and contributions to the party at the national level and for the sustenance of good governance at the state level.
On the forthcoming PDP ward primaries, Ekpo assured the Governor that the ward leaders would help him to actualise his vision for the party and thanked the National Working Committee for zoning the governoship position to Eket Senatorial District.
