The member representing Eket in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. David Lawrence, on Friday, delivered the mandate alloted to him by his constituence, as he unveiled his economic empowerment programme, with the distribution of cars, mini buses, motorcycles, sewing machines, deep freezers, among others at his thanksgiving, constituency briefing and empowerment programme held at the Eket local government secretariat of Akwa Ibom State
Hon. Lawrence who expressed appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel, all stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and residents of Eket local government area, said, that the occasion was in fulfilment of his campaign promises that he had in mind to give back to his constituents for their support.
According to him, the event served as a brief on his activities in the state house of assembly where they had sent him as their representative, added that the empowerment was borne out of his desire to gradually transform members of his constituency and improve their economic capacity.
Hon. Lawrence hinted that the bill for the law establishing the state’s Signage and Advertisement Control Agency, which he sponsored has been passed into law, even as he has also co-sponsored 15 other bills.
The law maker said he had reached out to various communities in Eket since 2015, some of which are “the intervention programme for floor control at AME Zion Primary School, Usung Inyang-Eket, with provision of 150 writing desks and chairs to pupils; payment of monthly stipends to some constituents ranging from N25,000 to N100,000, the amount totaling N1,250,000 till date, and N100,000 cash grants each given to 25 women for small scale trading, amounting to N2.5 million”.
Others are” provision of starter packs for sewing machines I gave to 24 youths who had undergone six months training on fashion and designing, training of youths in vocations including fittings, welding and rigging”.
Mr Lawrence said he has also constructed an ultramodern ICT and civic center at Idua road, paid bursary to about 198 indigent students of tertiary institutions in the first phase and awarded scholarship to 12 undergraduates in some specific disciplines effective from the 2018/2019 academic session.
In his remark, the speaker , Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, thanked the Eket people for giving Lawrence their mandate to serve as lawmaker, describing him as “a strong partner, a strong voice and major contributor” to the achievements the House has recorded in the last three years.
Speaking in the occasion, the Political leader of Eket, Rt Hon Nduese Essien, thank the law maker for remembering his people for the mandate they gave him to represent them at the house of Assembly and urged him to do more. Also, he admonished the people to keep believing in Hon David Lawrence to achieve more so as to take them to a greater height.
Earlier on, the Chairman on the occasion , Chief Assam Assam applauded Hon David Lawrence for his love to his people, he thanked the entire house of Assembly for seeing the need to support him with their presence at his empowerment program. He commended Gov. Udom Emmanuel for bringing development and inventors to the entire State.
The occasion had in attendance, the Governor ,representated by his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, state lawmakers, former ministers, Senator Helen Esuene and Nduese Essien; former Akwa Ibom Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ambassador Assam Assam, chairman of Eket local government area, Mr. Frank Archibong, as well as religious leaders, sociopolitical organizations, among others.
