The Afaha Iman Unity cup in Etinan LGA ended Sunday, New Year day on a high as underdogs Nung Ofon Essien emerged champions after penalty shootout.
The yearly competition which brings extended families in Etinan LGA together had six teams in participation.
Presenting the trophy to the winners, the Special Assistant to the Governor, Media, Mr Aniekeme Finbarr thanked the young footballers for raising the standard and the tempo of the competition and urged them to keep fit and develop their footballing skills.
Finbarr presented N20,000 each to all the six participating teams. He gave the winning side an extra N10,000 for winning the cup.
The Governor’s aide appreciated the Local Organizing committee with an extra N10,000. The match officials smiled home with N5,000 each even as the youths and the community also received their token of appreciation.
Aniekeme Finbarr assured that next year’s edition will be bigger and better and will be attended by the political class and the sports stakeholders in the state.
Present at the occasion was the Special Assistant to the Governor on Education Monitoring, Elder Udeme Udofia, who jointly presented the trophy, the village head and other great sons of Afaha Iman.
