Ahead of the March 28 and April 11 General Elections, Petty Business People, drawn from the 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom
State and their counterparts residing in Northern parts of Nigeria, have unanimously
thrown their weight behind the PDP governorship standard-bearer in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
They made their declaration on Wednesday, at the Udom/Moses Campaign office in Uyo during a solidarity visit to the governorship
Addressing the gathering, President of Association of Petty Businessmen and Women, Mr. Samuel Archibong, the Uyo Senatorial district leader of the group, Samuel Akpan, the leader for Eket, Ama Williams and the representative for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, Mr. Udo Idiong
Ankop, in their separate remarks said their decision to support the PDP governorship candidate was hinged on their firm belief that
Mr. Udom Emmanuel has the capacity, needed experience, political will and courage to turn the economy of the State around for overall benefits of the people.
They described Udom’s emergence as a divine project which will impact positively on their businesses and vowed to cast their votes for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan and the election of Mr. Udom Emmanuel as the next governor.
In a solidarity message, the National President, National Association of Small Scale Industries, NASSI, Engr. Ezekiel Essien, explained that members of the organized private sector in the State were happy that one of them who has been a successful banker and financial expert is flying the PDP governorship flag in Akwa Ibom, and described the decision by the petty traders to queue behind his candidacy as a step in the right direction.
Responding, Mr. Udom Emanuel who said he was humbled by the show of solidarity by the petty business men assured that he had the antidote to employment in the State when he emerges as governor.
He hinted that already he has fashioned out a blueprint that would add value to the petty business enterprise in the State, assuring that his government will work closely with them.
He maintained that the growth of their businesses will be boosted during his administration as he will enable members to access financial grants from the Central Bank of Nigeria as well as other incentives.
He promised to empower a department that will adequately carter for small and medium
enterprise, but advised them to ensure that they vote for all PDP candidates including President Goodluck Jonathan, to the national and State assembly candidates.
